A typical Godly Play Class
Our children’s morning begins with a greeting of welcome from the doorkeeper and a question, are they are ready to enter our sacred space. When ready to enter they sit on the floor in a semicircle facing the storyteller. The storyteller anchors the circle and is there to greet the children when they come in and say goodbye to them when they leave. As the child enters she/he senses the sacredness of the space.
Each storytelling is meticulously designed to draw the child into the story. Using beautifully handcrafted story pieces, repetitive phrases, silence, and wondering questions each child will take in the story at his or her own developmental level.
Wondering questions from the storyteller complete the story. Children’s response is open to their own creative preferences using the story pieces, arts and crafts or journaling, etc. If the child wishes they may also work with another story’s pieces.
If time will allow the children will re-gather to share a meal (water and rice crackers) modeling our Eucharist. The children end their time in this sacred space with a prayer and blessing and join the worshipping community prior to Communion.
